    Time Event
    9:51a
    Movies Nights and Pie Fights.
The movie night was a lot of fun. It was great fun to have the group over, and the pumpkin (and banana!) carving was a great success. I think I'll make it a yearly thing provided I'm still in the area. But movies may change. We watched Charlie Brown "The Great Pumpkin" which most of us watched as a kid, and "The Nightmare before Christmas". I actually think it's the first time I've paid full attention to it on DVD, and I picked up a lot this time despite having it practically memorized.

    People
(sorry for no ljuser tags I'm in a webbrowser) Lightling, BrowAscention, BRKVW, JhonenRed, Faustin, Amoken, Albinjad attended.

As always I tried to have some fresh faces which included my really cool neighbor whose an epidemiologist (which I kept saying as epistimologist) who fit in well, and a cool person I met at a Flash conference. I'm actually having dinner later this week as repayment for cat sitting with the neighbor, which will be fun, as we seem to have a good ability to maintain a lively discussion, while helping her carry some stuff home, we ended up chatting so long I missed seeing Amoken and Aljinbad taking off. Le Sigh! But it was great to see them.

I invited some others people but they didn't show up.

JhonenRed was extremely kind enough to drive back home and help Faustin who managed to get his car towed.

    of Pumpkins and Pies
Anyway due to logistics I spent much more time both resourcing and in the kitchen working on pies than I had intended, and at the completely wrong time (which seems to be a recurring theme in my events).

The spiced wine was tasty, I tried honey wine. I'll try making it again soon, as I have a bunch of cloves left over, and like red wine.

Pumpkins were much harder to source than anticipated. The stores only carry HUGE pumpkins or carvable plastic ones with matching LED flickering lights which allow you to do things outside the realm of flame...like make jack--bananas skins. I suppose it depends on how you look at that. I suppose it encourages reuse and there is bound to be tons of rotting pumpkin in the garbage in the next week. Still seems like a cool tradition, and you don't have to buy huge pumpkins, the ones I got at the farmers market were small canetlope sized. I was happy to let people take them home too, so I only have a few left. The tools make it uber easy to carve in high detail. I'll post a shot eventually.

I had intended to make one apple, and one pumpkin. I realized I didn't have quite the right gear for coring apples so I stopped by and picked one up as well as the nicest peeler design I've used. Crusts we very hard to find, everything in conventional stores (bot the frozen and the mix) was loaded with trans-fats and other crap. Found whole-wheat ones at the Co-op, but was worried about the flavor. Turned out to be a non-issue. However they were out of organic pumpkin so I ended up having to go back to the other store. Even with the uber peeler, it takes about 10-20 minutes to wash, core, and peel, though now I realize it's not necessary to wash them.. I think I will invest in a apple peeler as they aren't that expensive.

I ended up making 2 apples (clearly 8 apples have grown as I chose 8 of the 'medium sized' and zero pumpkin. Having it be my first time making apple pie I wasn't sure what to expect. Not that I should have worried, it's pretty hard to screw up, and most my crowd likes the less syrupy.

Sadly I think I would have liked to make a few more pies, as one slice is good, but 2 would have been better, and some for later more so. Thankfully LJ:BRKVW brought ice cream, else since there wasn't dinner there might have been fighting. Since apples are in season right now I'm going to make some more...and make the pumpkin. I had whipped cream but completely spaced out on bringing it out.

    Goth Dancing this eve.
It's been a week since I've danced and I'm starting to go nuts...dancing anytime there's a hint of a beat. Just got through rocking out to U2 in the living room.
Goth Dancing this evening if anybody is interested. One of [info]lightling's favorite DJ's from San Fran is coming down.
at Malediction Society, $5 before 10 (I think) also you can print out the flyer from LJ LAGoth and get in free. This eve should be relatively packed with hallloweenish peeps.
